Eight years after the launch of GTA Online on PS3 and Xbox 360, the Rockstar Games made the decision to finally shut down the GTA Online’s servers. The online mode can still be played on the consoles of the time until December 16, 2021 . Shark Cash Cards for GTA Online will no longer be sold for the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions after September 15, 2021. Additionally, website stat tracking via the Rockstar Games Social Club and other features for select PS3 and Xbox 360 titles will be shutting down on September 16, 2021. These include:
- Website stat tracking, online multiplayer, and leaderboards for the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of Max Payne 3
- Website stat tracking for the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of L.A. Noire
The story mode of GTA 5 remains of course unaffected. Rockstar Games has not updated GTA Online on PS3 and Xbox 360 since 2015. According to the team, the technical limits that were possible with these consoles have been reached. From then on, the focus was only on the versions for PS4, Xbox One and PC. A next-gen version of GTA 5 is currently in development and will be released for PS5 and Xbox Series X / S. For the first time, GTA Online is also getting a standalone offshoot.
